Capture, Use, Conserve
Welcome! EarthChoice Products, in historic Shepherdstown, West Virginia, manufactures and installs Rain Barrels for the capture and use of soft, mineral-free rainwater, which can be used in a variety of home, garden and landscape applications. Our product line also includes Tumbling Bin Composters (likewise made from recycled barrels), rain barrel accessories, water purification filters and last but not least, local Pure Maple Syrup. We are licensed and insured and serve the Eastern Panhandle and surrounding areas (the "About Us/About You" page explains a bit about how we got into this business.
In a little over one year we have sold and installed Rain Barrels far and near (relatively speaking) and are expanding our loyal customer base daily, to include shipping some of our products out of the local area. Our related accessories include the wooden Barrel Stand pictured above, and the Downspout Diverter, which makes owning and operating a Rain Barrel a snap. In addition, we are an authorized Dealer of Berkey Natural Purifiers, the Ultimate in Water Purification. We display our products at two local Farm Markets (Shepherdstown and Charles Town), special events focused on "green" themes, selected local hardware stores and nurseries, and at specialty "green" businesses that you ought to know about (see list). We have conducted one barrel making workshop and will be doing so again this year.
Our Goal is to promote the "greening" of local culture as it relates to water usage. We do this by adhering to the following principles:
*A commitment to customer satisfaction - we stand behind our products and service 100%
*A commitment to educating the public about how to conserve water, a precious resource, and
*A commitment to conduct our business in an environmentally responsible fashion, even if more costly or inconvenient.
The following pages describe our products and services in detail. If you are interested in a RAIN BARREL, we suggest you start by looking at the IMAGE GALLERY for examples of our barrels installed at homes and businesses, and then dive into the details of our products, accessories, installation services and prices. If you're local there's a good chance you know someone who has one of our barrels or composters - ask them if they like it. Of course we'd be happy to provide the names and telephone numbers of references, upon request.
Finally, we hope you find what you are looking for, and, most important, we encourage you to become as "green" as you possibly can in the conduct of your daily life. Our planet depends on it.
Cheers,
Neil
Important Note: due to concerns over the environmental impact of the painting process we have chosen to discontinue the practice of painting our plastic rain barrels and composters. The photos on this site and our advertisements will be changed shortly. Any request for a green barrel made BEFORE 7 April will be honored; after that all barrels sold will be white. Check out our newest page - "Customizing Your Rain Barrel," and remember, when it comes to using/not using aerosol spray paint products, white is the new green.
About our Website: If you are after a great Rain Barrel, Composter or other such items, you are in the right place. You can also find some other stuff here if you care to look, like a series of musings begun back at the start of this venture, some rain barrel-related, some not ("Bottom of the Barrel"), a wholly unnecessary and therefore fun gallery of our animals, some real, some not ("The Herd"), and information about making maple syrup. So, welcome to my corner. By the way, our unofficial motto, "Brighten The Corner Where You Are," happens to be the title of my favorite novel by one of my favorite contemporary novelists and poets, Fred Chappell. He spoke at Shepherd University a few years ago, and my daughter and I got him to sign our copies. Check out 'I Am One of You Forever' and then 'Brighten the Corner Where You Are,' and see if the wry, hopeful, humor and poignancy therein doesn't make your day a little bit sunnier.
our Maple Syrup Recipe Book is now available for purchase (and selling like hotcakes - get it?) The book features over 110 recipes and ideas for using maple syrup, is illustrated, and provides information about making maple syrup, its nutritional value, and maple lore. Printed on sturdy stock, the book is bound so that it lays flat while cooking. The cost is $8. As with our other products (excepting syrup and maple candy), we will ship one wherever you like.
